11/15/16 - Dr. David Newcomer Honored with 2016 Physician Excellence Award


We are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. David Newcomer as the recipient of the Ninth Annual ACMC Physician Excellence Award for 2016.

ACMC created this distinguished award to annually honor an outstanding physician for his or her leadership, innovation, clinical knowledge and dedication to our patients and the communities we serve. Nominees for this award are selected by their peers. ACMC's Board of Directors has the final selection based on the individual's contributions and accomplishments.

Dr. Newcomer is originally from Rochester, Minnesota. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College for his undergraduate degree. While at Gustavus he received numerous awards and accolades. He was the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Most Valuable Player for hockey in 1991 and a member of the 1991 All-American hockey team. In 1995 he graduated medical school from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. He went on to complete his residency training and internship in Internal Medicine at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Dr. Newcomer joined ACMC's team as an Internal Medicine physician in 1998. He has been endeared to his patients ever since, receiving many compliments and acknowledgements through the years.

He has consistently demonstrated his commitment to his field and ongoing education. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative Care. He serves as the Medical Director for Rice Hospice and has also served as IM Department Chair and ICU Medical Director for Rice Hospital.

He recently transitioned from his nine-year role as ACMC Health's Chief Medical Officer. Returning full time to his Internal Medicine practice in April 2016.

In recognition of Dr. Newcomer's long-standing service to his community, patients and colleagues, ACMC is proud to present him with the 2016 Physician Excellence Award. Dr. Newcomer received a crystal statue and a donation to the charity of his choice.
