Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine physicians are specially trained in treating adult patients aged 18 and above for common illnesses, preventive care, and chronic or multiple diagnostic problems. These include the treatment and management of:

  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Digestive diseases
  • Cancer
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Kidney disease
  • Women's health (not obstetrics)
  • Substance abuse
  • Mental health

Internists also coordinate and manage patient care with other specialists, and some specialize in dialysis, echocardiography (stress and trans-esophageal), pulmonary function and stress testing, sleep disorders, and endoscopy (Marshall).
